Project BenefitsThe primary reason for these works is to support our continually growing and prosperous Ipswich community. Other benefits include:
Project to dateWork is well underway in upgrading our existing raw sewage pump station and pressure main system to sustain future development in the region. Owing to unforseen circumstances Brisbane Terrace construction works commenced with a slower than expected start owing to difficult ground conditions and materials shortages. Work commenced late May with construction expected to continue throughout this year with completion planned for January 2008. Project overviewThe Goodna pump station (located at 64 Brisbane Terrace, Goodna) will be upgraded and enlarged with new sophisticated infrastructure for expanded wastewater needs and minimisation of flood risk. It will be connected to the Goodna Wastewater Centre via a 3.3km long and 914mm outer diameter steel main constructed within the road reserve along Brisbane Terrace and Lower Cross Street, Goodna. Work on this vital infrastructure upgrade will occur Monday to Friday during the approximate hours of 6.30am to 4.00pm. Please refer to above map for more details on the various construction phases. SpecificsThe Goodna pump station will be upgraded through the construction of a new wet well of eight and a half metres internal diameter to house large submersible pumps. Initially, two 140kW pumps will be installed with capabilities to deliver flow rates of 750L/s. The wet well will be designed to cater for staged future upgrades through installation of more and larger pumps. A new building will also be constructed to house the switchboard. To minimise flood risk, the existing filled area will need to be extended and a retaining wall will be used to limit the extent of fill on the site. TrafficTraffic control will be carried out throughout the construction phases to ensure minimal impact on motorists and access to affected areas. It is envisaged that the majority of work will occur with minimum impact on surrounding residents, businesses, and passing traffic. Council will ensure placement of appropriate signage to advise motorists of these works and provide opportunities for appropriate detours. If you would like further details regarding the Traffic Management Plan, please apply to Ipswich Water in writing. Other works in the areaYou may have noticed there is a lot going on in Brisbane Terrace these days. The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project is presently constructing the Oxley to Goodna section (including parts of Bundamba to Luggage Point) of the pipeline as part of the State Government's new vital water infrastructure plan.
