Ipswich City CouncilSouth East Queensland Water GridIn October 2008, the new $9 billion South East Queensland Water Grid started to come online to ensure a safe and secure water supply for the region. The Grid provides new climate-resilient water sources and allows coordinated management of water as a regional resource. Connecting Ipswich to the GridThe Grid includes the Southern Regional Water Pipeline which creates a new reversible water supply capability. From mid-November, households in Ipswich began to receive a mix of water from the Wivenhoe and Hinze Dams as water from the Gold Coast was supplied to the Brisbane and Ipswich distribution systems for the first time. From the end of November, a new desalination plant at Tugun will become operational, supplementing existing Gold Coast water supplies. Maintaining water standardsWhile you may have noticed some change in taste, your tap water continues to meet the stringent requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
