Recycled Water Services

Ipswich City is thriving economically and socially, making it one of the fastest growing areas in South East Queensland

Our City's water sources are changing. Previously we have been almost fully dependent on a single water source - the Brisbane River supply scheme (incorporating the Somerset and Wivenhoe Dams and Brisbane River).

The limitations of these resources are becoming increasingly evident and we need to diversify our bulk water sources to ensure a sustainable future. Recycling (of treated wastewater) can reduce our dependence on Brisbane River supplies by extending and substituting our town water supplies.

Ipswich Water's recycled water initiatives have been well received by other water professionals and have experienced widespread popularity.

Our strategy aims to maximise the use of recycled water in non-residential sectors where town water demand can be offset, specifically in industrial, commercial and high-value open space sectors where recycled water is ‘fit for purpose'.

We are committed to the use of recycled water for a sustainable city because of its many advantages, including:

  • A significant opportunity to reduce our potable water demand
  • A reduction in bulk water supply risk
  • A reduction in the volume of treated wastewater entering the environment
