Water Restrictions

Target 170 High Level Water Restrictions

The Queensland Water Commission has introduced Target 170 High Level Water Restrictions, effective 31 July 2008.

Councils affected by these restrictions include Ipswich City Council, Beaudesert Shire, Brisbane City, Caboolture Shire, Shire of Esk, Gatton Shire, Gold Coast City, Kilcoy Shire, Laidley Shire, Logan City, Pine Rivers Shire and Redcliffe City.

The integrated plan involves a set of water efficiency measures for residents, business, industry and Government to help our region beat this drought and create long-term savings.

Fines

If you breach the water restrictions you can be fined. Fines include:

  • first offence - $750 for corporations;
  • second offence (within two years of first offence) - $1,125 for corporations ; and
  • third offence (within two years of first offence) - $1,500 for corporations.

Recent changes to the Water Act 2000 may also attract hefty penalties for non-compliance with WEMP requirements.

Funding

There are a number of funding and assistance programs available to business, industry and community to bring greater water efficiency to their activities. Some of these programs can be engaged to assist non-residential water users in meeting their various requirements of water restrictions.
