Trade Waste Services

Trade waste is water-borne liquid waste generated from any business and delivered to the sewer network, other than domestic sewage, stormwater, or prohibited substances. Many commercial and industrial businesses, from small bakeries to metal finishing industries, produce trade waste. Common trade wastes include wastewater from industrial processes, wash and rinse water and blowdown from cooling towers.

Ipswich Water provides a customer focused trade waste service governed by strict policy and procedures. Our experienced staff offer the following services:

  • assessment of applications to discharge trade waste to the sewer, including the review of accompanying documentation relating to strength and volume of discharge;
  • issuing of approvals to discharge trade waste to Council's sewerage service including conditions relating to on-site metering and monitoring; discharge volume and strength; and maintenance of pre-treatment processes and equipment;
  • a broad range of laboratory procedures for testing and quality control of pre-treatment processes; and
  • an audit service for trade waste generators discharging to Council's sewerage service.
