Ipswich City CouncilStandpipesLatest NewsAs a drought initiative aligned with the Queensland Water Commission Water Restrictions, Ipswich Water has moved to reduce the number of potable standpipes accessing potable water and has severely limited the purposes for which potable standpipe water may be used. From 13 April 2007, only registered potable water carriers whose intended water uses cannot be met by alternative supplies (such as recycled water) may access Ipswich Water's potable water network via metered standpipes. Appproval to access potable water supplies will not be granted for uses where recycled water is ‘fit for purpose' (ie dust suppression, roadworks, landscape irrigation etc). This means an agreement for approval of standpipe use will be made on the basis of a risk assessment which considers the health and safety of:
Recycled water may not be suitable for uses such as testing and chlorinating of new water mains, filling of rollers and under road drilling.
