National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative

The Australian Government offers rebates for households to install rainwater tanks or permanent greywater systems as part of its National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative.

The scheme applies to products purchased after 30 January 2009, with the following rebates available:

*Rainwater tank(s) capacity - must be plumbed in for indoor water use by a licensed plumber**	Rebate
2,000 litres - 3,999 litres	$400
4,000 litres or larger	$500

*The minimum capacity may be reached by installing two or more smaller rainwater tanks.

Greywater system - must be installed by a licensed plumber	Rebate
Permanent greywater treatment system	$500

Applicants must apply for the rebate within six months of purchasing an eligible rainwater tank or greywater system.
